Bedok North KumKum
When I was living in Bedok North, near a children service centre, with my parents back in 2021, there was this rumour about this hantu kum kum roaming around our neighbourhood. What this hantu kumkum does is it will go to your doorstep and say out the islam greeting. However, it is not “assalamualaikum” but the lady will just say “kum”. It is believed that if u reply to her greetings or open the door, she will enter your house and haunt everyone inside. The hantu kum kum was famous a few years back but many residents in my neighbourhood started talking about this hantu kumkum making a comeback. Some of them said that they saw an old lady with a hunched back wearing a yellow headscarf walking from door to door and just peeping into the windows. Some said they heard a lady saying kumkum 3 times outside their house in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping. Some heard weird knocking on their door at 3am. There were many stories but no one in my household believed any of them until it happened to us…
All of us were having supper around 11:30pm and just chatting on our dining table. Out of nowhere, all of us - my parents, me and my younger sister - heard 3 very slow knocks. My dad was about to open the door when my mum stopped him because she remembered about the stories going around. My dad got angry because he doesn’t believe in the supernatural and continued walkin to the door. However, he stopped when he suddenly heard “kum..kum……”. An old lady voice CLEARLY said kumkum. The way she said it was very draggy and the voice souded like a weeping voice. Everyone’s face changed and the room went silent. But my younger sister suddenly said “Apa tu?” or in english “What is that?”. After she said that, almost immediately, the old lady outside started laughing… My dad made some prayers and eventually everything stopped only for a little while. The whole night I could here someone walking back and forth the corridor outside my house, shuffling her feet. After that day, nothing else happened.
